FIELD: methods of production of inorganic compounds, particularly, methods of production of nickelous hydroxide applicable in electrical engineering for manufacture of alkaline storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: method includes preparation of initial solutions, their mixing with activation additive containing barium ions, precipitation and separation of mother liquor from precipitate, subsequent pressing-out of precipitate, first drying, washing from impurities, second drying and stage analytical control. First drying is ended at paste moisture content of 10-14%. Introduced into said paste is solution containing cobalt ions at their definite relation to nickel ions. After first drying, sample is taken and subsequent operation of production of final product are simulated in laboratory conditions. In case of deviation of specific volume from the required value, introduced into main process is additional operation- washing of paste before the second drying with alkaline solution to correct quality of final product. Produced nickelous hydroxide has optimal crystalline structure and other parameters which make it possible to increase electrochemical capacity and coefficient of nickel use in discharge of alkaline traction batteries manufactured from nickelous hydroxide.
