FIELD: casting of magnesium alloys. SUBSTANCE: prior to pouring of melt, mold hollow is filled with protective gas heavier than air. During melt pouring, gas mixture is supplied which consists of gas heavier than air and gas lighter than air in ratio of 1:(10-20). After completion of melt pouring into mold, supplied to surface of metal is only heavy gas up to solidification of casting surface. EFFECT: reduced amount of rejects of castings due to reduced formation of secondary oxides. 1 tbl
