FIELD: metallurgy, namely rolled stock production, possibly restoration of steel rolling rolls with damaged necking portions in sheet rolling mills. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of removing damaged layer, electric arc welding of necking portion along removed zone and subsequent heat treatment of it. Heat treatment of welded necking portion comprises steps of heating up to 400-450 C, soaking at such temperature for 0.5-2.0 hours and subsequent cooling until 60-90 C at rate 10-50 C/hour. EFFECT: enhanced strength of rolling roll due to simultaneously making optimal structure of welded and transition layers. 2 exp, 1 tbl
