FIELD: metallurgy, namely plants for continuous casting of strips and bands between rolls. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes two rolls mounted in bearings on frame; means (for each roll) for measuring position of generatrix of roll working surface diametrically opposite relative to the most narrow zone between rolls in three or more points arranged respectively in mean plane normal relative to roll axes and in secondary planes parallel relative to said mean plane; means for measuring in said mean plane position of generatrix shifted by 90 degrees relative to the most narrow zone between rolls. Method according to invention uses results of measurements made with the aid of apparatus for continuously determining geometrical parameters of gap between rolls while taking into account roll deformations occurred at operation process. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of sustaining shape and size of gap between rolls. 12 cl, 4 dwg
