FIELD: foundry, continuous casting of thin steel strips between rolls. SUBSTANCE: process involves hardening of strip by feed of molten metal between two rolls having irregular outer surfaces with horizontal axes and rotating in opposite directions. Control over barrel shape of rolls is carried out by checking blown in amount and/or characteristics of gas or composition of gas mixture at least close to surface of each roll above zone of its contact with molten metal. Gear to implement process is fitted with aid measuring or computing value of barrel shape of rolls with irregular outer surfaces in casting space or of indicative parameter of barrel shape of rolls. Invention makes it possible to provide operators with facility that helps to control barrel shape of rolls within sufficiently wide range to obtain optimum barrel shape independent of casting conditions. EFFECT: obtainment of optimum barrel shape of rolls independent of casting conditions. 12 cl, 1 dwg
