FIELD: inorganic chemistry; applicable in preparation of catalyst used for cleaning of gas mixtures from carbon monoxide in systems of collective and individual protection, in effluents of industrial enterprises, for cleaning of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, and for other industrial and environmental control purposes. SUBSTANCE: method includes electrolysis of solution containing 250-280 g/l of manganese sulfate and 150-200 g/l of free sulfuric acid, at anode current density of 500-600 A/sq.cm with switching of electrode polarity for 0.5-1.5 h in time interval of 5-9 h. Method allows production of electrolytic manganese dioxide with catalyst activity surpassing the known ones in oxidation of carbon monoxide. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 tbl
