FIELD: hydroacoustics, in particular, calibration tests of measuring equipment in natural environment. SUBSTANCE: state-of-the-art method involves application of test signal to target measuring instrument subjected to testing and to reference measuring instrument, and comparison of results of measurements of two instruments, in order to calibrate target measuring instrument. Test signal which is applied to measuring circuits of target and reference measuring instruments is designed as natural sound of water. Errors of measurement caused by switching of measurement ranges of target measuring instruments are eliminated by running measurement during stormy weather and/or period of seismic activity.
