FIELD: nuclear engineering. SUBSTANCE: neutron absorbing material based on rare-earth elements and used, for example, for control rods of water-cooled reactors has in its composition dysprosium base, titanium oxide, niobium oxide, and zirconium oxide. Used as dysprosium base is dysprosium oxide. Proportion of components is as follows, mass percent: dysprosium oxide - 70- 80; niobium oxide - 2-7; zirconium oxide 0.5-2; titanium oxide - the rest. With dysprosium oxide content higher than 78 mass percent, niobium oxide content is to be at least 5 mass percent.
