FIELD: hydrocarbon conversion catalysts. SUBSTANCE: method includes: preparation of carrier by mixing silica, aluminum hydroxide, industrial- grade calcium aluminate, and graphite; addition of aqueous solution of plasticizing combustible agent; molding; dry-curing in air; treatment of carrier in steam atmosphere; high-temperature baking; impregnation with solution of nickel and aluminum nitrates; and heat treatment of catalyst paste. According to invention, the latter operation is carried out for 1.0- 1.5 h in autoclave at steam pressure 1-2 atm and temperature 150-170 C, and subsequent drying is performed in the following way: temperature in drying zone is raised with a rate 40 to 50 C/h to 120 C and kept at this temperature for 1.5-2.0 h; nickel and aluminum nitrates in impregnation solution are used at weight ratio (4.0-5.0):1 (on conversion to NiO and Al2O3); plasticizing combustible agent utilized is sodium carboxymethylcellulose; and high-temperature baking of carrier is conducted at 1450-1500 C.
