FIELD: liquid fuel production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing residual petroleum products to yield fuel oil directly on mazut vacuum distillation plant. For that, goudron is withdrawn from vacuum column still at 340-360 C and subjected to further heating in furnace to temperature 450-490 C at pressure 0.6-1.2 MPa. Resultant vapor-liquid mixture is separated on atmospheric rectification column to yield, as basic products, thermal residue and balance amount of heavy thermal gas oil, which are combined and mixed with 0.5 to 2.5 wt % of metallized fraction also withdrawn from vacuum column.
