FIELD: railway transport; running gear; freight car bolster suspension. SUBSTANCE: proposed vibration damper has wedge, and friction plate of bogie side frame which has working and non-working surface. Wedge engages with friction plate along working surface. Design peculiarity is that working surface if made projecting over non-working surface. Working and non-working surfaces are rigidly intercoupled. Groove is made on non-working surface over perimeter of working surface. With wedge-plate friction pair operating, friction plate wears over its working surface. Method of reconditioning of worn out friction plate comes to surfacing of worn out plate with wear resistant material to level exceeding non-working surface with subsequent machining of working surface. Projecting working surface provides stable operation of vibration damper as no impact loads appear in case of wear of friction plate. EFFECT: reduced wear of car friction units, increased service life of friction plate. 2 cl, 3 dwg
