METHOD OF RECONDITIONING THE ROOFINGS FROM BITUMEN-CONTAINING MATERIALS Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: construction; applicable in RECONDITIONING of old or making new roofings, mainly, from roll roofing, for instance, ruberoid. SUBSTANCE: method includes cleaning of roofing from old coat and subsequent application of bitumen-containing material. In cleaning, all layers of old coat are removed, and bitumen is separated from old coat base by it melting, and discharged. Bade of roofing is crushed to obtain particles sizing in cross-section of 0.01-2.0 mm and amounting to 25% of all produced particles. Particles are combined with old discharged and/or bitumen, mixed with heating to form pasty mastic which is applied to roofing in at least one layer 3-25 mm thick and subsequently rolled on. In so doing, base may be crushed to obtain length of 0.05-3.0 mm by 25% of obtained particles. Weight content of bitumen or base in mastic amounts up to 0.9-1.1 of their content in bitumen-containing material of old coat. After application of pasty mastic to roofing by, for instance, spatula, it is rolled on by roller weighing 50-70 kg directly or through layer of coiled or sheet material which is mainly left on coat after completion of work to serve as upper layer of reconditioned roofing. Separation of bitumen from base of old coat and preparation of pasty mastic are carried out on operation site, in movable plant provided with chamber for heating of material of old coat layers with screened basket for base, crushing chamber and mixing chamber for preparation of pasty mastic.
