FIELD: nondestructive inspection of pipes and bars. SUBSTANCE: proposed process of ultrasonic inspection includes excitation of pulse of ultrasonic wave in article, multiple passage of this pulse over perimeter of section, measurement of energy of signals received in specified time interval, evaluation of state of acoustic contact by results of this measurement. In addition suppression of pulses passed through article over perimeter, reception of signals caused by processes of reflection and transformation, measurement of energy of these signals used to evaluate presence and dimensions of flaws are carried out. Gear for ultrasonic inspection has combined bidirectional converter and ultrasonic flaw detector and processing circuit connected in series to it, amplifier, unit measuring informative parameters connected to flaw detector and decision making unit connected to processing circuit. Suppression of pulses emitted in opposite directions by bidirectional converter and passed over perimeter of article and reception of signals caused by processes of reflection and transformation are realized by placement of receiving bidirectional converter in zone of mutual compensation of these pulses. EFFECT: enhanced quality of products thanks to expansion of capabilities of test, increased sensitivity, reliability and authenticity of ultrasonic inspection. 5 cl, 2 dwg
