SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for ultrasonic inspection of articles with a complex profile, such as rails or section bars. Essence of the invention is that the immersion ultrasonic inspection device comprises an immersion or a local immersion bath and one or more immersion ultrasonic transducers, positioned relative to the monitoring object such that the optimum angle of incidence β of the longitudinal wave on the surface of the test object complies with the condition: β = Arcsin C1/CR, where: C1 is the longitudinal wave speed in the immersion medium; CR is the Rayleigh wave velocity in the control object material, wherein each ultrasonic transducer includes a combination of two or more piezoelectric elements, wherein distance H between centers of neighboring piezoelectric elements corresponds to the condition: H = K × (CR/F) × Cos (Arcsin C1/CR), where: K is a coefficient selected from the range K = 2...20; F is the effective frequency of elastic oscillations.

EFFECT: providing detection of surface and subsurface defects in products with a complex profile, for example, in rails or rolled products.
