FIELD: processing of leather. SUBSTANCE: method relates to automation of process of measuring surface area and thickness of flat moving materials and branding measured data on surface of materials and particularly on surface of leather-pieces. According to method, automatically measured is weight of leather-pieces and measured data is stored in memory. Leather-pieces are moved by string-type conveyor located below measuring device, branding zone indicator, and branding device. Periodically measured is width of leather-pieces, and their surface area is calculated. Formed is signal of "end of leather-piece" and according to it actuated is pause in movement. Average thickness of leather-piece is calculated, using measured data of its weight and surface area. Operating members of branding device are set in position according to measured surface area and calculated average thickness. On termination of moving pause and where there is no signal from branding zone indicator, leather-piece is pressed against branding device, branding operation is performed and leather-piece is released from clamping device. Application of aforesaid method allows for widening functional potentialities due to branding additional parameters, high level of automation, and higher accuracy in measuring of additional parameters.
