FIELD: leather industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to utilizing process automation means for measuring area of moving flat materials and recording measured data on the surface of these materials. More specifically, leather is displaced consecutively under measuring and marking means, its width is measured periodically and measured values serve to determine area and process marking site coordinate. In particular, signals "leather start" and "leather end" are formed including "transport delay" of "leather start" signal. When performing transport delay, marking means is displaced toward process marking site coordinate and, upon leather end signal, executive organ of marking means is set into position corresponding to measured area. On expiring transport delay, leather is pressed to marking means, marked and depressed. During this operation, leather positioned before measurement zone is oriented such that process marking site coordinate were in downstream forward leather part, whereas process marking site coordinate is determined by way of parallel reading of width code in downstream specified cross-section and transformation thereof into numerical value. For that, indicated code is relocated and number of relocations to the first coordinate of the circuit is counted and memorized, after which the rest of the code is once more relocated, and number of relocations from the first to the second circuit coordinate is counted and all counted relocations are summarized, the second number of relocations being divided in half. EFFECT: simplified technology and reduced power consumption. 2 dwg
