FIELD: light industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves moving material through working zone of three detectors arranged at angles of 45, 135 and 90 deg relative to direction of movement of material and through particle removal zone spaced from particle detection zone by distance corresponding to transport lag time. In case of presence of metal particles in material, information is received alternatively from first and second detectors, each piece of information is memorized in the form of single pulse which is moved in synchronism with movement of material through advance pulses of motion detector. Method further involves receiving information from third detector and forming it as a single pulse; moving single pulse in conjunction with information from first and second detectors, which had been memorized by that moment for value corresponding to transport lag time; reading code information from two first detectors memorized after additional pulse advancement; calculating on the basis of such information coordinates of metal particles through material width in each section and recording resulting data in control unit, which forms controlling action upon actuating mechanisms for removal of metal particles. Method is recommended for detecting and removal of needle particles in nonwoven backing used for manufacture of synthetic leather, felt etc. EFFECT: increased efficiency by providing optimal information on coordinates of detected metal particles. 2 dwg
