FIELD: light industry. SUBSTANCE: invention can be employed for detection of metal particles, for instance, fragments of needles in unwoven base in process of production of synthetic leather. Process consists in movement of material in turn through zone of action of three transducers placed at angles of 45, 135 and 90 deg with regard to direction of movement of material and through marking zone, in reception of information from two first detection transducers in the form of unit signals. At moment of reading of information from third transducer information from two first transducers is converted to values of coordinates by material width, these values are summed up in pairs and compared with maximum value of distance between extreme detection transducers. Comparison result determines true value of coordinates of position of metal particle over material width. EFFECT: more accurate determination of true coordinates of position of metal particle by width of material in each section. 2 cl, 6 dwg, 1 tbl
