FIELD: optical methods of measurement and test of rolling surfaces of wheels. SUBSTANCE: proposed method can be realized in manufacture of measurement equipment based on optical instrumentation. Method consists in irradiation of full profile of working surfaces of wheels with optical ray in the form of sequence of short pulses of certain frequency proportional to speed of rolling of wheel and in reception of reflected signal by sensitive surface of matrix photodetector in the form of sequence of light spots followed by transmission of data into automated system and their comparison with reference value. EFFECT: timely and precise measurement of profile of working surfaces of wheels of rolling stock traveling with definite speed with allowance for effect of impact loads and displacement achieved thanks to use of matrix photodetector of new generation and employment of stabilized optical system. 1 cl, 2 dwg
