FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves introduction into metal melts of alloying components and alloying compositions whose physico-chemical properties (melting and boiling points, density, vapor pressure, affinity to oxygen, etc.) differ from corresponding characteristics of melt. The method ensures spontaneous immersion into metal melt of alloying elements enclosed in insulated capsules and presenting, for instance, lead and/or alloying compositions and also reducing agents, and/or deoxidizing agents such as aluminum, magnesium, iron sulfide, silico-calcium and others. In so doing, amounts of effluents of oxidation products and vapors into atmosphere are reduced and uniform distribution of alloying elements and components in melt is ensured. Structural members of insulated capsule are made of material based on one or several components of metal melt. Density of filled insulated capsule is by 0.5-1.0 g/cu. cm higher than that of metal melt. Insulated capsule is introduced into metal melt simultaneously, or by portions of several pieces and held in metal melt for time required for their melting. It is desirable to introduce insulated capsules into different points of vessel with melt. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 cl, 1 tbl, 1 ex
