FIELD: electrolytic production of aluminum. SUBSTANCE: method includes maintenance of invariable values of alumina loading interelectrode distance. Alumina is loaded by equal doses in the amount of 1.05-1.20 of rated demand during the period from anode effect to tapping of aluminum. Then loading of alumina is discontinued up to occurrence of next anode effect and subsequent adjustment of interelectrode distance. EFFECT: reduced consumption of electric power and increased current efficiency. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
