FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, more particularly cast iron compositions intended for making ingots of highly strong cast iron with ball-shaped graphite and forgeable ferrite-based cast iron and other types of ingots. SUBSTANCE: cast iron is essentially high-grade cast iron having lower content of adverse impurities. Cast iron comprises (wt %): carbon, 3.5-4.5; silicon, 1.01-2.5; manganese, 0.01-0.10; phosphorus, 0.01-0.060; sulfur, 0.008-0.03; titanium, 0.010-0.025; chrome, 0.010- 0.04; copper, 0.001-0.010; vanadium, 0.005-0.03; lead, 0.02-0.06; cobalt, 0.001-0.003; selenium, 0.0005-0.001; zinc, 0.0005-0.001; bismuth, 0.0005-0.001 and iron, the balance. Due to minium content of impurities, cast iron is useful in smelting highly strong steel. EFFECT: high silicon and low-sulfur cast iron having favorable form of graphite inclusions and having homogeneous structure of ingot. 3 cl, 1 tbl
