FIELD: cellular communication with multiple base stations. SUBSTANCE: mobile station generates sequence of active call pilot signals, which are transmitted by base stations to which the mobile station established communication. In addition, mobile station generates sequence of Neighbor set pilot signals, which are transmitted by base stations which are located in close proximity to the mobile station. Search method involves comparison of measured intensities of pilot signals, which correspond to records associated to each base station in Neighbor set, to first threshold level. One or several records of Neighbor set corresponding to base stations, which measured signal level is greater than first threshold level, can be stored in set of prospective choices. Then method involves evaluation of levels of pilot signals associated to records in set of prospective choices for detection of their acceptance for their allocation to choice set, which is used for selection of records included into Active call set. EFFECT: pilot signal search for transmission of mobile station communication between bases stations. 36 cl, 7 dwg
