FIELD: gamma-ray source for medicine and other purposes. SUBSTANCE: mass and cross-sectional area of separate parts of core blanks are pre-calculated depending on magnitude and desired configuration of radiation dose filed. Then blanks are assembled and encapsulated in metal slightly activating in reactor. Assembly obtained is irradiated in reactor to desired activity and upon decontamination it is used as gamma-ray source. Adequate proportion in activities of end and central sections of source attained in the process provides for generating radiation dose field of desired geometry. EFFECT: improved design of gamma-ray source. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
