FIELD: electroplating, more particularly application of nickel-iron melt onto steel products. SUBSTANCE: electrolyte comprises, g/l: nickel sulfate, 230-250; nickel chloride, 33-43; iron sulfate, 70-90; boric acid, 30-80; trilon B, 0.25 mmole/l; bromphenol red or safranine T; 0.25-1.0 mmole/l. The resulting deposits are smooth, dense, lustrous, adequately bonded with substrate and have minimum hydrogen absorption of steel substrate. EFFECT: improved properties of the electrolyte. 2 tbl
