FIELD: tobacco industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves uniform drying, wetting and cooling of tobacco. The layer of tobacco is first passed through drier 38 and cooler 32. Tobacco is dried in fluidized bed in several heating zones, each provided with independent control system. Dried tobacco is cooled in fluidized bed in cooling zone 32 up to repeated wetting stage. Tobacco is moved through heating zones and through cooling zone by means of endless conveyor 14. Dried tobacco is directed to vapor tunnel 40 where its moisture content is increased to required level. Tobacco is moved through vapor tunnel 40 by means of vibratory conveyor. EFFECT: increased efficiency by providing uniform drying, cooling and wetting of tobacco, and improved quality of tobacco. 16 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
