FIELD: electrical engineering, specifically, metal- halogen lamps for general and special illumination. SUBSTANCE: metal-halogen lamp has burner made of optically transparent material with wolfram electrodes and molybdenum foil current leads sealed tight and filled with inert gas with additives for provision of burner with halogenides of radiating metals, nickel included as minimum. Novelty of this proposal lies in injection of nickel into burner of lamp by its usage in the form of current-carrying spacers located between electrodes and foil leads. Quantity m of nickel, mole, in spacers should be not less than amount determined from following relation m= Pef., where V is volume of torch; is pressure of saturated vapors of nickel under effective temperature of torch under rated operational condition, Pa; R is effective gas constant 8.31; Tef is effective temperature of burner under rated operational condition, K; and pressure of inert gas is from 1.33 to 80.0 kPa. EFFECT: invention prolongs operational life and decreases manufacturing cost of lamp. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
