FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for taking samples of melt of metal which solidifies in certain way and for obtaining information on temperature of liquidus. Probe submerged into melt of metal has form elongated in direction of submersion and can contact melt of metal with its first axial end with submersion of it into melt. Probe has refractory body with submerged butt facing first end of probe and internal sample-taking chamber limited by assemblage of internal walls. One of walls, first end wall is located close to submerged butt or face. Probe has duct passing between hole in submerged butt or face and main inlet in first end wall. It also has element taking temperature of melt and heat absorber placed inside sample-taking chamber bordering on first end wall and having hole made in it that corresponds to main inlet in first end wall. Internal walls of sample-taking chamber are mounted for energy take-off from its internal part with first rate R1. Probe includes insulating screen with hole corresponding to hole in heat absorber and main inlet in first end wall installed in sample-taking chamber and abutting on heat absorber. Insulating screen is designed for take-off of heat energy from internal part of sample-taking chamber with second rate R2 lower than first rate R1. EFFECT: invention provides for accurate determination of temperature of liquidus of molten metal, provides for prevention of formation of gas hollows formed around element determining temperature of liquidus. 19 cl, 2 dwg
