FIELD: rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: butyl rubber production process involving catalyzed copolymerization of batch mixture consisting of isobutylene, isoprene, and inert solvent is controlled by measuring Mooney viscosity of polymer. Control method is distinguished by regulating consumption of batch mixture and catalyst and weight ratio of catalyst to batch mixture. Before increasing consumption of batch mixture, catalyst supply is raised above specified catalyst-to-batch mixture ratio within specified time and then decreased when specified value of increased consumption of batch mixture is achieved, and, vice versa, before decreasing consumption of batch mixture, catalyst supply is lowered below specified catalyst-to-batch mixture ratio within specified time and then raised when specified value of lowered consumption of batch mixture is achieved. Batch mixture and catalyst supply raising or lowering time is found equation: Δt = tc - tb, wherein tc and tb, respectively, are times during which catalyst and batch mixture consumption influence Mooney viscosity of polymer.
