DEVICE FOR READING INFORMATION CARRIER, USING DISCRIMINATING DEVICE FOR DETECTION OF INFORMATION CARRIER TYPE Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: computer engineering. SUBSTANCE: device may be used for reading information carriers, which information patterns are stored as parallel working tracks. Device has reading head, which outputs signal by means of scanning information carrier in scanning position on track, and discriminating device for detection of information carrier type. Information pattern has at least one specific physical parameter for each information carrier type. Processing of output signal to complete information reading as well as servo mechanisms, for example, driving motor and servo drive are regulated depending on specific information carrier type. This design results in possibility to detect type of information carrier by means of discriminating device without actuating servo tracing mechanism. In addition, information carrier rotates with constant speed; scanning position is positioned at given radial distance from rotation point. This results in possibility to reach given linear speed.
