FIELD: treatment of water. SUBSTANCE: vortex reactor is used for softening of water by precipitation of salts. Reactor has three cylindrical chambers with diameters alternately increasing in height, positioned one above another and coupled wit one another by truncated cones. These chambers are: lower chamber of quick mixing with tapered base, middle chamber of calcium carbonate crystallization in suspended layer of inoculated material and upper stabilization chamber. Reactor is provided with water inlet tangential branch pipe, alkali reagent inlet branch pipe, inoculated material inlet branch pipe located in upper part of stabilization chamber, branch pipes of decarbonized water removal from stabilization chamber, and branch pipes of inoculated material removal from tapered base of quick mixing chamber. The latter is provided with congruent insert fitted with spiral-shaped guide, having pitch increasing with height and guide- cutting angle of 30-35 dwg. Inlet branch pipes of source water and alkali reagent are arranged in tapered section of mixing chamber. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 1 dwg
