METHOD OF DECONTAMINATION OF WATER Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: decontamination of natural water by chlorine-containing compounds; decontamination of water from cancerogenic agents-trihalogen methanes.

SUBSTANCE: water is subjected to treatment with inhibitor and hypochlorite; used as inhibitor is sodium sulfite or sodium sulfide at mass ratio to unit of active chlorine of 1.0-1.5 and 0.1-0.2, respectively; process is performed at two stages: with inhibitor at first stage and with hypochlorite at second stage at maintenance of pH=6-9 and ratio of duration of contact of water to be decontaminated with inhibitor at first stage to duration of contact with hypochlorite at second stage equal to 1: (15-30); process is continued till content of residual active chlorine is not below 0.6 mg/l.

EFFECT: reduced formation of trihalogen methanes; improved organoleptic and sanitary parameters of water.
