FIELD: corrosion protection. SUBSTANCE: method consists in implantation of metal ions more reactive than iron to hydrogen in steel followed by implantation of ions of metal used for passivation of cutting tool surface material. The former are ions of Ta and/or V, and/or Ti, and/or Nb, and/or Zr with energy 80-200 keV in dose (1-5)*1017 ions/sq.cm, and the latter are Cr and/or Mo ions with energy 20-80 keV in dose (0,2-5)*1017 ions/sq.cm, energy of passivating ions having to be by 10-20 keV higher than that of ions with high reactivity for carbon. EFFECT: increased service time of cutting tools. 2 cl, 6 dwg, 1 tbl
