FIELD: cellular communication equipment. SUBSTANCE: method for searching pilot signal of base transmitting-receiving station by mobile station involves gathering maximal level, which is received by mobile station. Maximal level is defined as level with maximal signal power within window of given size. Selected maximal level values are matched against confidence level and their mean value is calculated. Then, method involves calculation of confidence interval for selected levels and calculated mean value. Maximal shift of search window for current morphology of radio communication in cellular network is calculated using said confidence interval. Search window, which is applicable to current morphology of radio communication, is approximated by doubling value of maximal shift. Thus, invention is applicable for characteristic of mobile station and morphology of communication in cellular network, when search window is approximated using results of search received from mobile station.
