METHOD FOR DRY MOULDING OF CONTINUOUS TAPE OF EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: process of manufacture of heat- insulating expanded polystyrene for construction and machine building. SUBSTANCE: expanded polystyrene granules are subjected to a dry warm-up by hot air, lateral reduction of the volume of warmed up granules and holding in the reduced state and welding of granules into a moulded item. Moulding of the item is accomplished by components by successive moulding-on of each next moulded component to the previous one. To this end, the short passing warmed-up mould cell with moulding punches connected to the vessel of warmed-up granules is supplemented with a portion of warmed-up granules. The cell is locked, separated from the vessel, subjected to longitudinal one-sided reduction with pressing of this portion to the previous one by means of the moulding punch. Operations of lateral reduction and additional holding are carried out. The cell walls are moved apart, decreasing the force of lateral reduction. The moulded component and the whole tape of expanded polystyrene moulded of components are pushed through by the value of length of the moulded component. The tape of expanded polystyrene is slowed down, the moulding punches are returned to the initial position. The moulding cell is cleared for the next portion of warmed-up granules.
