FIELD: alcohol industry. SUBSTANCE: sugar composition is subjected to fermentation to give fermentable substance containing ethyl alcohol. This substance is distilled to give water-alcohol mixture and waste water. Ethyl alcohol solution is dehydrated involving alternate adsorption-desorption technique using ion- exchange resins with high ion-exchange capacity (within a range of 5.3 to 6.5) and capable of swelling in water to a high extent. Resins selectively adsorb water from water-alcohol mixture until essentially pure alcohol is obtained. Waste water is digested to recover enough power for carrying out the process. EFFECT: reduced power consumption and environmental pollution. 6 cl, 1 tbl, 6 ex
