FIELD: instrumentation. SUBSTANCE: optical indicator of level of liquid has measurement tube, light source coming in the form of discrete radiators, each one being optically coupled to proper detection photocell and element breaking above-mentioned optical coupling. Element that breaks optical coupling depending on level of liquid in reservoir is counterweight which is tied up to float placed in measurement tube by means of flexible rope passed over rotating pulley. Technical result is expansion of functional capabilities of optical level indicator, specifically, possibility of its usage to measure level of liquid in large and open reservoirs as well as level of liquids carrying fallen and clinging precipitates.
