FIELD: feed production. SUBSTANCE: method involves treating aqueous solution of sodium formate, which is chloroform synthesis by-product, with sodium hydroxide at temperature of 125-140 C and residual concentration of sodium hydroxide of 0.6-1.3 wt%; Treatment is performed by heating in closed apparatus at automatically adjustable pressure or in the process of boiling down of solution under atmospheric pressure, with following crystallization and drying of concentration due to boiling down in air flow. Treatment facilitates elimination of biologically active chlorine organic compositions from wastes. Produced preservative is biologically safe, allows quality of feeds to be increased by reduced feed loss during preservation process. Method is used for producing preservative for agricultural feed, for instance silage, on the basis of chemical production wastes.
