FIELD: blasting operations. SUBSTANCE: detonator has an initiator unit with a semiconductor bridge designed for initiation of the ignition charge. The initiator unit has an initiating element comprising a bridge of semiconductor material between two conducting sections. The bridge has a resistance of at least approximately 50 Ohms and has a volume within 48,600 cubic microns to 600,000 cubic microns at a usual thickness of two microns. The ignition current of higher than 200 mA fed to the initiator unit via wires makes the bridge initiate the ignition charge.
