FIELD: navigational instrument engineering. SUBSTANCE: magnetic compass may be used for elimination of electromagnetic deviation in magnetic pointer-type and induction compasses. Compass has magnetic sensing element and electromagnetic compensator energizing coils positioned in pairs symmetrically relative to compass vertical. Axle coinciding with direction of coil magnetic axle is inclined with respect to line passing through centers of coil and magnetic sensing element through angle where α is angle between axle coinciding with direction of coil magnetic axis and line which connects centers of coil and magnetic sensing element; ϑ is angle between vertical passing through coil center and line connecting centers of coil and magnetic sensing element.
