FIELD: navigational instrumentation engineering; magnetic indicating compasses provided with latitude compensators and mounted on board ships running in regions at considerable change in magnetic latitude.
SUBSTANCE: proposed compensator has two vertical rods made from soft-iron bars located in two mutually perpendicular vertical planes passing through center of compass. Length of each rod is found from the following formula:
where L is length of rod consisting of bars; r is distance between vertical axis of rod and vertical of compass; m is proportionality factor of non-inductive twin latitude compensator; is constant; χ1 is magnetic susceptibility of rod; d is diameter of rod bars.
EFFECT: optimization of parameters; reduced labor consumption.
