FIELD: biochemistry. SUBSTANCE: described is preparation of enantiomer (R)-(+)-of 5-(phenyl) hydroxymethyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole with high yield by isolation of (phenyl)hydroxymethyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole of formula: from racemic mixture. Method comprises using lipase having enzymatic activity in selective transesterification reaction using ester of formula 3: R₁COOR₂ wherein R₁ is methyl or ethyl, R₂ is vinyl or isopropenyl. Transesterification gives mixture containing unreacted R-(+)-1 and ester of (S)-(-)-5- (phenyl)alkylcarbonyloxymethyl-1H-pyrazole of formula 4: wherein R₁ is methyl or ethyl. Unreacted enantiomer R-(+)-1 is separated from said ester by chromatography or crystallization in suitable solvent with recuperation of R-(+)-1, and the resulting ester is hydrolyzed.
