FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of introducing melt metal to flow-through crystallizer and drawing partially solidified metal out of crystallizer; registering process of motion of cast billet in zone nearest to outlet of crystallizer by contact free way and without delay due to use of irradiation sensitive members. Sensitive members are designed and arranged in such a way that they form measuring signals to be decoded and corresponding to path-time period characteristics of cast billet; covering surface of melt metal bath for casting with powder forming liquid slag in order to obtain lubricant film between envelope of billet and inner wall of crystallizer; registering measured value corresponding to friction between envelope of cast billet and inner wall of crystallizer in apparatus for oscillating and introducing registered value to data procession unit in the form of computer; introducing measured signal corresponding to change of path-time period characteristics to computer; determining relation between motion of cast billet and friction value of cast billet in crystallizer; forming signal for changing content of casting powder in dependence upon relation of motion of cast billet and friction between cast billet and walls of crystallizer. EFFECT: enhanced properties of billet surface. 7 cl, 3 dwg
