FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: vitamin E precursor 2,3,6-trimethylbenzoquinone is prepared via oxidation of easily accessible 2,3,6-trimethylphenol with aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide in presence of catalyst in water-miscible organic solvent. Catalyst is mesoporous mesophase titanium-silicate material with titanium concentration at least 0.5 wt %. Molar ratio trimethylphenol/titanium not exceeds 100. Reaction is conducted at vigorous stirring and temperature not below 30 C. Organic solvent can be water- miscible alcohol, carboxylic acid, or acetonitrile. Concentration of 2,3,6- trimethylphenol is no higher than 0.2 M and H2O2-to-trimethylphenol molar ratio not below 2.5:1. EFFECT: simplified technology and avoided toxic reagents. 9 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
