FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: aromatic aldehydes (vanillin, syringaldehyde) are prepared by oxidation of lignin- containing material in alkali medium in presence of oxygen. Novelty consists in additional employment of oxidation activator: nitro- or nitroso-derivative of lignin in amount 2.0-3.0 g per 1 g of lignin contained in raw material.
