FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical processing of wood components, namely to the improved method of synthesis of vanillin and syringaldehyde that are used widely in production of large numbers of medicinal preparations and in synthesis of polymers. Aromatic aldehydes are synthesized by alkaline nitrobenzene oxidation of lignin from leafy wood species at increased temperature and pressure in the presence of violuric acid as an organic addition taken in the amount 0.5-5.0% to mass of absolutely dried wood. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis, increased yield of aromatic aldehydes, particularly, syringaldehyde by 10-15%.
