FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for manufacturing metallic composites such as cemented carbide. Two-step process includes preparation of solution by dissolving and complexing at least one compound selected from Men(NO3)m and Men(SO4)m and other similar compounds Men-Xm, in which X ligands are of low- carbon type, preferably metal nitrates, or mixture of selected compound with at least one organically liganded metal salt in at least one polar solvent containing at least one complexing agent containing functional groups OH or NR2 (R is hydrogen or alkyl), provided that proportion of low- carbon or no-carbon metal salts is superior to 10%, preferably to 50% based on the total amount of metal salts. Refractory component powder is added to thus prepared solution, which is then evaporated to isolate powder. The latter is subjected to heat treatment in inert and/or slightly reductive atmosphere to give desired refractory component powder with coating based on at least one iron group metal.
