FIELD: metallurgy; manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the manufacture of a cutting tool. Cutting tool comprises hard alloy substrate. Hard alloy contains WC and a binder phase containing one or more of Co, Fe and Ni. Solid alloy also contains an eta-phase containing carbides Me12C and/or Me6C, where Me is one or more metals selected from W, Mo and metals of the binder phase. Substeichiometric content of carbon in solid alloy ranges from −0.30 to −0.16 wt %. Method of making a cutting tool comprises providing a powder which forms solid constituent parts containing WC powder, providing a powder selected from Co, Fe and Ni, forming a phase of binder, providing liquid for grinding, milling, drying, pressing and sintering powders into hard alloy. One or more of W, W2C, Mo or Mo2C is added in such an amount that the sub-stoichiometric content of carbon in the sintered solid alloy ranges from −0.30 to −0.16 wt %.
EFFECT: improved resistance of the cutting tool to cracking.
