FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely to production of cutting tool containing hard-alloy substrate, which contains controlled amount of finely dispersed eta-phase. Method of making a cutting tool comprising a hard-alloy substrate comprises the steps of: providing a first sintered hard-alloy body containing WC, a metal binder phase, wherein the metal of the binding phase is selected from one or more of Co, Fe and Ni, and the eta-phase containing carbides Me12C and/or Me6C, where Me is selected from W, Mo and one or more metals of the binding phase, wherein the sub-stoichiometric content of carbon in the solid alloy ranges from −0.30 to −0.16 % by weight, heat treatment of said first sintered hard-alloy body at temperature of 500 to 830 °C for period of 1 to 24 hours.
EFFECT: cutting tool made using the disclosed method has high resistance to flanges cracking.
