FIELD: monitoring of process overload of absorbing elements of the active zone of the pile being in the shut-down state and having an isotropic structure, for enhancing of safety during the whole overload period. SUBSTANCE: method consists in successive equivalent motion of rods-absorbents and determination of the response of the neutron field to these motions by signals of the neutron detectors, for determination of the fact of a local dip use is made of the static criterion in conformity with the interval average values of neutron rate measurement. According to the regressive dependence, setting the measured current values of relative variation of the interval rates of the neutron detector, determined is the unknown coordinate of local dip. The number of neutron detectors is selected proceeding from the necessity of partial overlap of the zones of minimum sensitivity of the neutron detectors to a local dip.
